James "Danny" Russell, 70, of Morehead, Kentucky passed away Monday, January 23, 2023 at his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Oliver Springs, Tennessee on October 20, 1952 to the late James Alfred Russell and Theresa Qualls Langley.
Danny was a retired heavy equipment operator who enjoyed attending dirt track races, hunting and spending time with his friends at Shorty's Gas Station. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and watching his favorite television show, Gunsmoke.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Grant Russell.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann Reed (Clay) of Owingsville, Kentucky, three grandchildren, Austin, Morgan and Addison Reed, three brothers, Steve Russell (Lana) of Betsy Layne, Kentucky, Sam Russell of Sod, West Virginia and Phil Russell (Annie) of Pikeville, Kentucky and half sister, Penny Osip (Joe) of Phenix, Alabama.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Dr. Sean Bailey officiating.
Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead will be 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM Thursday.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at the Russell Family Cemetery in Oliver Springs, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Clay Reed, Austin Reed, Jimmy Carrey, Steve Russell, Sam Russell and Phil Russell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Nelson, Steve McKinney, Steve Swim, Johnny Maze, Artie Parish, Rick Pieratt and Matt Stockdale.
